“Particularly impressive is the appearance of a real steam locomotive, puffing smoke and breathing steam in all the right places. It produces the required gasp of surprise from the audience, and is one of those moments of theatrical magic every production should have.”

The Great Gatsby - Concordia Theatre, Hinckley
When creating a new show as a director you want to make a bold impression. This comes from having a dynamic cast, impressive costumes but most importantly a stunning set. After seeing some of Martyn’s work I was keen to work with him to create a modern adaption of a 30’set for a production of The Great Gatsby. He not only delivered but took my vision to the next level. Using his engineering mind, he created a set that was elegant which looked like it floated about the stage with cleverly designed features allowing the multiple platforms to float. This added a ‘wow’ factor that the audiences were not expecting!

I first was aware of MJP Theatrical Solutions after watching a production in my local theatre. We first contacted Martyn regarding our need for a boat for a production of The Little Mermaid. This challenge was not as simple as it may sound. I required the boat not only to move seamlessly around the stage, operated by one dancer, but also to break apart during the storm scene to make a ship wreckage on the ocean floor. Martyn was able to not only create a realistic boat but a theatrical moment in the show that was highly reviewed. Since we have utilised MJP Theatrical Solutions to create items for multiple shows and he never fails to deliver! Highly recommended!”
